A BOY'S BEST FRIEND - After Max (Jason Behr) acts quickly to save his mother (recurring guest star Mary Ellen Trainor) from a kitchen fire, she is forced to confront her long-hidden suspicions about his curious abilities, and Max must once again involve Isabel (Katherine Heigl) and Michael (Brendan Fehr) to help him keep both his parents and Sheriff Valenti (William Sadler) from learning the truth. Still hurting over her recent breakup with Max, Liz (Shiri Appleby) feels new sympathy for what Kyle (Nick Wechsler) has been going through, and reaches out to be his friend, just as Michael, in his own awkward way, tries to thank Maria (Majandra Delfino) for helping save his life.
